Our Signature Ritual

Deep Relief
by Herbal

90 unbroken minutes in 4 movements: traditional Thai massage, steamed herbal compresses, aromatherapy oils and head massage. The fullest expression of everything we do. £100.

Why It Exists

Not a longer massage. A different thing entirely.

Most 90 minute treatments are simply a 60 minute treatment with 30 minutes more of the same. This is not that. Deep Relief by Herbal is built as a sequence, where each stage prepares the body for the next, and the reason it works is the order rather than the length.

It is the treatment we recommend when someone tells us they are exhausted rather than merely stiff, when the tension has been building for months, or when a guest wants to understand what traditional Thai spa practice is actually capable of.

At £100 it is the dearest treatment on our menu and we do not pretend otherwise. It is also the treatment guests most often come back for.

The Ritual

4 movements, 90 minutes

  1. I

    Traditional Thai massage

The ritual opens on the mat with acupressure along the Sen lines and assisted stretching, the same discipline as our 60 minute Traditional Thai. This is the groundwork. Hips, hamstrings, spine and shoulders are opened before anything warm arrives, so the heat that follows reaches tissue that has already begun to let go.

  2. II

    Steamed herbal compresses

Muslin bundles packed with Thai herbs are steamed until fragrant and pressed into the muscle, rolled along the spine, held on the shoulders, worked into the calves. The scent fills the room within seconds. Heat and aromatic compounds together achieve something neither manages alone, and this is the part guests remember weeks later.

  3. III

    Aromatherapy oils

With the muscle warm and receptive, your therapist moves to blended essential oils and long flowing strokes. The pace slows deliberately here. After the intensity of the compresses this section is where most guests stop tracking time altogether.

  4. IV

    Head and scalp massage

The ritual closes at the head. Scalp, temples, the base of the skull and the ridge of the shoulders, worked slowly with fingertips. Ending here rather than at the feet is intentional, because it brings you back gently and takes the last of the tension out of your jaw and forehead.

The Herbs

What is inside the compress

Thai herbal compresses, known as luk pra kob, have been used in Thai medicine for centuries. Ours are packed with the traditional botanicals: lemongrass, kaffir lime, turmeric, ginger, camphor and tamarind among them, wrapped tightly in muslin and steamed until the herbs release their oils.

Each herb is there for a reason. Ginger and turmeric are warming and long associated with easing inflammation and joint stiffness. Camphor and kaffir lime clear the head and airways as you breathe them in. Lemongrass carries the unmistakable aroma that makes the whole room smell like Thailand.

Compresses are checked for temperature against the therapist's own skin before touching you, and are always in motion or briefly held rather than left in place.

If you have herb or plant allergies, sensitive skin or a heat sensitive condition, tell us when you book on 07301 158604 and we will advise honestly on whether this ritual is right for you.

Practical Notes

Making the most of 90 minutes

Do not book it before something important. You will not want to go straight into a meeting or a busy evening afterwards. Guests who plan a quiet evening get far more from it.

Eat lightly beforehand. A heavy meal an hour before 90 minutes of face-down bodywork is uncomfortable.

Arrive 5 minutes early. The ritual runs to time and starting late shortens it, since your therapist usually has a guest booked after you.

You will smell of herbs. Wonderfully so. Many guests deliberately leave showering until the following morning.

Drink water. More than you think you need, both afterwards and the following day.
